In Fullerton, Lyft has worked hard to establish a friendly image. It has offered drivers perks like free bank accounts, discounted maintenance and near-immediate access to earnings — all in an effort to encourage contractors to stay with the company longer. Drivers who amass 10,000 rides are eligible to buy shares of the company on public markets. However, many contractors are not interested in purchasing stock, arguing that they would rather invest their own money in their vehicles and other needs. Currently, the company is in talks with drivers about ways to reduce rates.
