Before 1965, most couples in the country met by setups from friends or co-workers. Almost all of them, however, didn’t meet at bars.

e’s Bar

Located on the Upper West Side, e’s Bar is one of the best places to meet singles in NYC. This laidback pub has a great beer selection, delicious food, and jukebox music to keep the vibe fun and flirty. There’s even a big booth in the back that’s perfect for snuggling up with your potential date while playing Jenga.

The first e’s Bar opened in 1965, and Stillman drew inspiration from his travels to tropical locales. The Upper East Side was then known as the Girl Ghetto, and stewardesses dominated the neighborhood. His business model was a hit, and other so-called “fern bars” quickly followed suit.

The fern bars were a cultural phenomenon, and the era was also a time when cocaine and other drugs were popular. And of course, the AIDS virus was just around the corner. Singles in this era often found each other through friends, co-workers, or family members. They didn’t typically meet at bars.

The Summit Bar

If you are single in NYC and want to meet new people, this is the perfect bar for you. It has a dark atmosphere and a lot of drinks to choose from. The staff is very friendly, and the prices are reasonable. They also have a good whiskey selection.

Located in the West Village, this American bar is great for meeting people and having fun. The staff is very friendly and the atmosphere is perfect for talking to girls. The cocktails are also great, and the music is very relaxing.

The Summit Bar is the oldest singles bar in Manhattan, and it was founded in 1965. It is named after the summit of the Manhattan skyline, and it offers a unique environment for meeting people. Its dark, romantic setting and burlesque dancers make it a great place to hook up with someone. The bar is very popular, and it can get crowded. It is a good idea to arrive early to avoid waiting in line.

Rosie O’Grady’s

After 43 years at its 7th Avenue home, Rosie O’Grady’s, an iconic Manhattan meeting place and a home from home for Irish people around the world, has been forced to close. The Carty family, which has managed the bar, restaurant and event venue since its beginning, is now searching for a new home for the Rosie O’Grady’s name in Manhattan.

The Co Leitrim-born owner Mike Carty cited the sky high $3 million per year rent that he was paying as a major factor in his decision to close. The establishment, which is located at the corner of West 52nd Street and Seventh Avenue, was closed during most of 2020 and then reopened in May of 2021 for the Covid-19 pandemic.

The food was great, a good crowd of young & old and everyone seemed to have a really good time. I was especially impressed with the karaoke on Monday and Tuesday nights. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly. The drinks were pretty standard for a NYC nightclub but reasonably priced.
