Witnesses in the Miami Kingsland trial have told how they were threatened, fired from their jobs, and violently assaulted to prevent them from testifying. This culture of intimidation and violence is widespread in Barbados. In addition, the lack of court reporters and other forms of accurate documentation undermines the integrity of the judicial system. These conditions make it difficult to fight corruption in the country. Mia Mottley, the current Prime Minister of Barbados, is working hard to change this. She is not afraid to take on powerful insiders.

The Team

The Barbados national football team is the official representative of the country in the sport of soccer. The team is controlled by the Barbados Football Association. The team has never qualified for a major international tournament, though it came close in 2005 when it hosted the Caribbean Cup finals that also served as Gold Cup qualifiers and lost all five of its games.

The team has participated in several editions of the Caribbean Cup, obtaining a second-place finish in 1985 and finishing in fourth place in the ’90s. They were also able to qualify for the 1994 World Cup qualifiers but were eliminated in the first round by Trinidad and Tobago with an aggregate score of 9-0 over two legs.

In recent times, the team has participated in the CONCACAF Nations League, securing a top-four position in Group A of League C to earn promotion and an opportunity to qualify for 2021’s Gold Cup. Known as the Bajan Tridents, the team has a lot of history to draw upon as it continues its quest for international glory.
